My name is Amber and I broke six sewing needles the first time I used a sewing machine. Since then, I've been learning to craft and sew every-day clothing and costumes. And after a very introspective look at my closet, I came to a startling realization.

Clothing is meant to be an expression of who you are as a person and how you want others to perceive you. You are not a person built to feature the clothes you wear.
My body is not the standard fit of modern day clothing and it took me a long time to accept that. I used to try to shop at Forever 21 with my friends and could never find clothes that made me feel pretty or comfortable. My friends would always flit about and be so satisfied with their clothes. Whereas, I was miserable and frequently plastered a fake smile on my face. I would constantly think to myself that I wasn't perfect enough as I stared at my reflection in the dingy dressing room mirror.
"I'm too fat for this dress." FALSE! This dress is not made for me.
"I'm too short to wear this." FALSE! This skirt was not made for me.
"My boobs are too big for this shirt." FALSE! This shirt was not made for me.
None of the things you tell yourself in the dressing room are true. The clothing is merely not designed with you in mind. All of these garments are designed to fit a perfect image of society's standard for beauty. This image is constantly changing and is not a good standard to compare yourself to.
